Rio Rancho, New Mexico
"The City of Vision"
One of the fastest growing communities in the nation, Rio Rancho is located 12 miles Northwest of Albuquerque. Founded in the early 1960s, the city started off as a real estate project called "Rio Rancho Estates." Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the population grew and more land was purchased. Rio Rancho was incorporated in the early 1980s. Now covering about 75 square miles, Rio Rancho is home to almost 60,000 people.
Quality of life is among the best for cities of its size! Technology has been the leading industry; Intel started a $2 billion expansion on their local plant in 2000, the second largest industrial expansion in the world! The Rio Rancho school system has a new high school, and the community is loaded with parks and recreation areas.
Like Albuquerque, Corrales and the rest of the greater metro area, Rio Rancho is within a day's drive of most destinations in New Mexico: Pueblos, nature reserves, ski areas, recreational lakes, and numerous state and federal parks and monuments.
